Jeans for Troops

These last two days the kids have worked hard on writing letters to soldiers and veterans in our community. We read a few books and talked about what Veterans Day is about. Today we wore jeans to celebrate our veterans and collected money to donate. Our class raised just over $20.00. Thanks to those of you who contributed to our celebration!

NEW Zoo Fun

On October 15th our class went on a field trip to the NEW Zoo. We had the opportunity to walk around the zoo and see a wide variety of animals. We also had a presentation about anaimal adaptations. Here are a few of the animals we saw during our presentation.
Hercules the Madagascar Hissing Cockraoch was the first animal we saw in our presentation. He has a special ability to hang on anywhere. Our presenter informed us that he is an excellent climber and can even scale smooth glass.
This is Evie a leopard gecko. Our presenter shared how important Evie's tail is to her survival. If Evie is ever in danger, she can break off her tail to escape!
This is Rollie the three-banded armadillo. Rollie has a unique feature for protection, his armor. He can completely curl up in a ball and hold that tight form for days if needed.
This is Arwin an Asian Leaf Turtle. Before Arwin was given to the NEW Zoo, he was a house pet. Unfortunately the previous owner didn't know the right nutrients to give Arwin, and his shell did not form correctly. Arwin's shell is extremely important to his survival in the wild because it is a protective shield against predators.
The last animal in our presentation was Bennie. He was a fan favorite because his soft fur. We learned about how those large ears and eyes keep Bennie safe if he were out in the wild.
We had such a great day at the NEW Zoo. A special thanks to the parents that were able to attend and help out with such a fun day!

Using noodles to represent the life cycle of a butterfly!

These past few weeks we have been focusing on the life cycle of a butterfly. Currently, our butterflies are in their chrysalises getting ready to break out and dry off those wings! Here is a craft that we did as a class to reinforce the 4 main parts of the butterflies life cycle.
